Red Feather Construction Consultancy was appointed to support Airmyn School following the successful securing of funding for a new cabin to provide additional teaching space, primarily for SEN children. While the installation initially appeared straightforward, planning requirements linked to local flood risk meant the cabin needed to be positioned 600mm above the lowest ground level. This created additional design and construction considerations that required careful planning and coordination before works could begin. Working closely with a structural engineer, I helped develop a suitable solution involving reinforced concrete stub columns to support the cabin safely and compliantly. The raised position of the unit also required the installation of access steps and a ramp to ensure safe and practical day-to-day use for staff and pupils. Additional enabling works were coordinated to allow access for the Hiab lorry responsible for delivering and positioning the cabin on site. Red Feather Construction Consultancy sourced and managed the required building and electrical trades, while overseeing the project from commencement through to final delivery. The works were completed over a two-week working period, with a short pause in the programme to finalise delivery logistics. Once complete, the new teaching space was immediately put into use by both staff and pupils, providing a valuable additional learning environment for the school. This project reflects Red Feather Construction Consultancy’s practical, hands-on approach to project coordination, problem-solving and delivering tailored construction solutions within live educational environments.
